Jennifer Berry
MS, OTR/L
Jennifer is an Occupational Therapist who received her B.S. Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University and a M.S. Degree in Occupational Therapy from Tufts University. Jennifer’s love for children led her to provide occupational therapy services to children with a variety of disabilities, developmental delays, and special needs. Jennifer specializes in working with infants and toddlers with feeding disorders, motor impairments and atypical sensory processing. Jennifer is an integral member of the Spectrum Pediatrics Feeding Team and is driven to help children develop happy and healthy relationships with food. She also believes passionately in providing play-based therapy in order to help children bloom and grow. Jennifer uses a light-hearted, family-friendly, and natural approach to make therapy sessions both beneficial and fun. Contact Jennifer
Lindsay Holzrichter
BSW, MSPA
Lindsay is the Practice Director at Spectrum Pediatrics. She received a B.S. Degree in Social Work from Southwestern College and a M.S. Degree in Professional Accounting from Strayer University. Before moving to Virginia, she worked as a crisis case manager and discharge planner for a mental health center and a hospital psychiatric unit. Lindsay also spent eight years working for a non-profit civic education organization handling everything from grant writing and fundraising to admissions and finance. Lindsay, a native Kansan, is a sports nut. She can be seen with her husband Steve and two children, Henry & Amelia, at Washington Capitals hockey game or cheering on the University of Kansas Jayhawks. Contact Lindsay
Connie Ten Eyck
OTR/L, CEIM
Connie Ten Eyck grew up in Front Royal, Virginia. She ventured out of state to attend Florida International University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Occupational Therapy in 1991. Connie spent the next several years travelling and working in various settings and treating patients from 1 day old to 101 days old. In 1998, Connie returned to Northern Virginia and got married. After several years of struggle with infertility, she and her husband Todd were blessed with a baby boy through adoption. Connie is a busy mom dealing with the daily juggle of working at a local hospital as well as raising a very active 4 year old boy. In the NICU, Connie witnessed these preemie miracles enduring life saving but painful procedures every day. There had to be a way to help parents comfort and bond with their babies. It was this love that led her to become a certified educator of infant massage. Connie loves early intervention and hopes to help teach parents lifelong skills in raising their children to know the power of positive touch.
Monica McDonald
MA, CCLS
Monica McDonald is a certified special educator and holds a Master of Arts degree from George Washington University in Early Childhood Special Education with a birth to five focus. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. Monica has experience as a preschool special education teacher as well as an Autism Consultant to teachers and parents for multiple school districts. She has extensive training from multiple experts in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders and has provided hours of training to parents, educators and educational assistants in the areas of child development, ABA Methodologies, Structured Teaching, Social Skills and more. Prior to working in the field of special education and early intervention, Monica worked as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) in two large urban children’s hospitals in the New York City area.
Deena Kennedy
MS, CCC-SLP
Deena is a Speech-Language Pathologist who received her B.A. degree from Brandeis University and her M.S. degree from the University of the District of Columbia. Prior to becoming an SLP, Deena taught in a private school for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and spent a year as a behavior therapist. Deena has experience providing therapy to children in an inter-disciplinary fashion, and enjoys working with other professionals to support the family and child. She has focused her career on working with children in the 0-5 population, as well as elementary-aged children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Theresa Miller
MS, CCC-SLP
Theresa is a Speech-Language Pathologist who received her B.S. degree and M.S. degree at Nazareth College of Rochester, NY. Since moving to Virginia, she has worked in public schools and has serviced a variety of children with special needs. Theresa has provided therapy to preschool and school-aged children with autism spectrum disorders, expressive language and receptive language delays, speech sound disorders, fluency disorders as well as children with emotional and neurological impairments. She is very eager to join the Spectrum Pediatrics team and to work closely with children and their families.
Maureen Burnham Basye
MS, CCC-SLP
Maureen is a Speech-Language Pathologist who received her B.S. Degree from the University of Virginia and a M.S. Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Syracuse University. Maureen has been empowering families to help their children communicate for over 10 years. She has vast experience treating children with autism spectrum disorders and a wide array of speech and language deficits. Maureen specializes in the treatment of language delays, articulation challenges, apraxia, feeding and swallowing disorders and social language deficits. Maureen is also a member of the Spectrum Pediatrics Feeding Team. She thoroughly enjoys partnering with parents to help improve their children’s communication and social skill development through play. Throughout her career, Maureen has found no greater joy than watching the children she treats learn to communicate with the important people in their lives. She lives in Alexandria with her husband Geoff and son Patrick. Contact Maureen
Dr. Markus Wilken
Psy.D.
Dr. Markus Wilken is a Health Educator specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of feeding disorders and feeding tube weaning. In Germany, Markus practices as a child psychologist and holds a M.A. in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Psychology, both from the University of Osnabrueck, Germany. Markus is currently the Co-Director of the Institute for Psychology & Psychosomatics of Early Childhood in Germany. Markus received specialized training and certification in tube weaning and the treatment of early onset feeding disorders at the University Hospital for Children in Graz, Austria. During his career, Markus has performed extensive scientific research and clinical study in the area of childhood feeding development. Markus believes in a team approach to treating and weaning tube fed children; this passion has led him to train therapy teams and families around the globe in his unique methods.
Tracy Huppert
M.Ed., CCC-SLP
Tracy is a Speech-Language Pathologist who received her B.S.Ed. and a M.Ed. in the field of Communication Disorders from the University of Virginia. She has extensive experience in aiding children with expressive and receptive language, articulation, and social skills. She also has expertise in the areas of feeding and is a member of the Spectrum Pediatrics Feeding Team. Tracy utilizes play-based strategies in order to make learning new skills fun and functional for the child. She works with each family to develop a plan that is as individual as the child. Tracy is thrilled to be a member of the Spectrum Pediatrics team and help children communicate with the people they love.
Cheryl Issa
MS, RD, CSP, CNSC
Cheryl Issa is a Registered Dietitian who received her B.S. Degree in Nutrition from the University of Maryland at College Park. She is board certified in both Pediatric Nutrition and Nutrition Support. She has over 10 years of experience working with children with congenital and acquired nutrition related disorders. She uses a practical approach and evidenced based medicine to individualize nutrition care plans. Cheryl truly enjoys helping her patients achieve optimal growth and overall health through nutrition therapy.
Tricia Tyrell
MA, CCC-SLP
Tricia is a speech language pathologist who received her B.A. from Loyola College in Baltimore and her M.A. from The George Washington University. Since beginning her career, she has worked with children and adolescents with multiple learning needs in the school setting, but has spent most of her time working with children with autism. Tricia has extensive training in applied behavior analysis/verbal behavior, and has spent many years collaborating therapeutic services with many local behavior consultants. She is very excited to be joining the Spectrum Pediatrics team and looks forward to working closely with families and their children.
Kristian Hagen
MS, CCC-SLP
Kristian is a Speech-Language Pathologist who received her B.A. degree from California State University Fullerton and her M.S. degree in Communicative Disorders from San Francisco State University. Prior to joining the Spectrum Pediatrics team, Kristian worked in early intervention non-profit preschool programs, private schools, public schools, and inpatient acute healthcare settings. Kristian is thrilled to share her knowledge by helping families use practical strategies to enhance their speech and language skills. She is also excited to collaborate with the wonderfully diverse Spectrum Pediatrics team.
Ellen Courtney
RPT
Ellen attended the University of Connecticut and graduated in 1977 with a degree in Physical Therapy. Since moving to Northern Virginia in 1987 (by way of New Orleans, Ohio, and Atlanta), Ellen has worked in the public school system with children in preschool through high school who have had a variety of physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Ellen is excited to join Spectrum Pediatrics and collaborate more closely with families to help them achieve their goals. Ellen is a fitness enthusiast and tries to incorporate that enthusiasm into movement and play during therapy sessions.
